Dare to be Blue
Umpires are the oft underappreciated anchors of our game. At BPALL, we recognize that our umpires may have the toughest job on a ball-field—adjudicating pitches, hits, catches and base-running. We also believe our umpires serve as positive role-models for our children, demonstrating fair-mindedness, commitment, decisiveness, and calm under pressure.
BPALL fields both adult and youth umpires. And we are always seeking new recruits for our Umpire Bullpen. As far youth umpires, putting on the blue is a great way for young people to further their self confidence, leadership identity, and courage.
STUDENT UMPIRES NEEDED
Calling all 13-18 year old guys and gals with ballgame know-how and a discerning strike-zone eye. The league is seeking youth umpires to adjudicate Minors Division (ages 9-11) baseball and softball games in the upcoming spring season (2020). Work on your tan and earn some extra cabbage ($25 a game; two hours of work) for summer break. If interested, please reach out to BPALL's Youth Umpire Director, Ramesh Raghupathi, at [email protected].

Our pre-season Umpires Clinic (mandatory) is fun and will impart everything you will need to oversee a good and proper ballgame. More information is coming soon on clinic dates and times. So have mom or dad iron that favorite blue polo shirt, load-up on the fresh carrots (vitamin A for eyesight), and practice your boldest "play ball" shout.
UMPIRE EQUIPMENT
All umpires are required to have and maintain their own equipment. Plate-gear includes face mask, chest protector, leg pads, umpire indicator (clicker), ball bag and plate brush. Field Gear includes only umpire indicator (clicker). Please note that BPALL will provide one umpire indicator (clicker) per umpire if needed.
UMPIRE UNIFORM
While umpire uniforms are not required, the goal is to look official, different from the teams on the field, and non-attention grabbing. Preferred attire is as follows:
- Navy blue or light blue polo shirt with as little advertising as possible
- Gray, black or dark pants (long pants are preferred over shorts)
- Dark hat with no logo
- Jackets or cold weather gear should be dark colored, when possible
- Water bottles encouraged
