Berwyn Paoli Little League

Volunteering

Berwyn Paoli Area Little League, and Little Leagues throughout the world, run on the backs and minds of volunteers. It’s central to what makes Little League unique among youth sports and the experience for our children, so rich. Opportunities for service range from the simple and quick—raking an infield after a game—to strategic and involved—positions on the League Board.

Your coaches and team managers will coordinate with you regarding needs and availability. Remember, we do this for the kids. And in doing so, we draw closer to our neighbors and friends.

THINGS WE CAN ALL DO

Field Maintenance – THIS IS IMPORTANT AND SO EASY

Need a little exercise? Some Vitamin D? Care to showcase your raking/dragging skills and have a few laughs with your fellow grounds-keepers? Baseball etiquette requires that we prepare the infield before a game or practice and tidy it up at completion.

The more who chip-in, the quicker it goes—ten to fifteen minutes on average. Set an example for our boys and girls and give the coaches a breather. Check out these tips on field prep/closing.

Concessions

Having food and beverages available on game-day is a crowd-pleaser and, once again, good baseball etiquette. Concessions volunteers have a lot of laughs, enjoy bonding with neighbors and friends, and are welcome to enlist the help of eager young-people seeking early exposure to the service economy.

Field of Dreams has two concessions stands, both of which offer views of the neighboring fields. Typically, you will only do one tour-of-duty in a season. And look at it this way: folks pay top dollar for these seats at Citizens Bank Park. So plant yourself in the concessions stand for a game, serve up some wieners and pretzels, and play the ump behind the ump for an hour or two.

Game Announcer, DJ, Score-Keeper

Next to a game-winning, bottom of the ninth grand-slam, this job is a bucket-list must-have. Assume your premium seat in the breezy announcing booth, high above the field of play—well, sort of—and take that radio-voice of yours to the task. Announce line-ups, batters and pitchers; spin some vinyl in-between innings, and leave your narrators-mark on the affair.

Fair warning. Young people get first dibs on this peach of a job. Adult supervision, is, of course, welcome and suggested.
