Quickball (Formerly Tee Ball)

Eligibility

Boys and girls league-age 4-6 (as of August 31)

Overview

It all begins here. Quickball (formerly Tee Ball) is first and foremost about having fun and learning the game of baseball. Children are provided a plastic bat and soft style ball to start the season. Through out the season they are encouraged to learn the fundamentals of hitting, catching and throwing, while gaining a simple understanding of the basic rules and strategies of the game. Teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play are also introduced. The environment is safe and non-competitive. The laughter is infectious. And it is within these carefree beginnings that the seed is often sown for a lifetime love of the game.

In Quickball, players either bat off of coaching pitching or a batting tee. The ball itself is softer than a traditional baseball, for obvious safety reasons. The field is proportionally smaller to ease the base-running burden of those little legs. Everyone plays. Everyone smiles.

Season

Games typically start in early to mid April and go until mid June. Games are twice per week - one weeknight per week (the specific weeknight will vary week to week) and one on Saturday (the Saturday game times will vary from week to week). Once games start, practices are limited (this is at the discretion of the coach).

Duration

Quickball is broken up into two segments, the first 30 minutes is set up into 4 stations, fielding, hitting, throwing, and baserunning. The second 30 minute segment is a game environment where players score points in one of three ways: with a base hit, by completing a baserunning assignment or by fielding a ball and throwing it to the proper base. This typically lasts about an hour.

Equipment & Attire

Players are provided a plastic bat and ball to begin the season. In addition to this, they should have the following equipment and bring to all games and practices:
  • Players do not need a tee ball bat, glove, or helmet
  • Players should wear baseball pants or sweatpants and an athletic t-shirt or sweatshirt. Players can play in sneakers although some will have baseball shoes (i.e., cleats). Players will be provided a team shirt (to be worn for games) and also a team hat.
